Environment & Resilience Planning at Crater PDC

Water resources, climate resilience, land conservation, & hazard mitigation

Providing technical assistance and regional collaboration across our watersheds and communities

Crater PDC’s growing environmental programs aim to serve the region’s communities and their natural resource assets by providing regional convening, collaboration, and one-on-one technical assistance. Our focal areas include flood resilience, water quality, land conservation, and outdoor recreation. We provide high-quality services including floodplain administration support, regional resilience planning, stormwater management assistance, grant writing and administration, and more. Crater PDC’s communities are home to some of the last remaining longleaf pine ecosystems, bottomland hardwood swamps, and valuable riparian forests that provide a host of ecosystem and economic services. The region is split north-south between the Chesapeake Bay and the Chowan Basin watersheds, and east-west between the coastal plain and piedmont regions, resulting in a diverse mosaic of natural resources. Crater PDC’s Environment and Resilience department takes an interdisciplinary approach to planning that prioritizes the conservation and restoration of these natural assets while also uplifting the communities that steward them.

Our Environmental Mission

to strengthen community resilience and protect the region’s diverse natural resources through collaborative planning, technical assistance, and conservation-focused initiatives that honor both ecological integrity and local stewardship.

Regional coordination

Regional coordination brings communities, agencies, and organizations together to address shared environmental challenges and opportunities. Through partnerships like CREST, the Southern Rivers Round Table, and collaborative initiatives focused on water quality and flood resilience, Crater PDC helps align local efforts, share resources, and strengthen the region’s collective impact.
